Phase Four
The purpose of Phase Four is to develop a plan for collecting and securing data during implentation. The data collection methods must be aligned with the outcome and objectives to correctly measure student success. When developing my data collection methods, I carefully considered my outcome and objectives as well as the implementation timeline and specific needs of my students.
The objective of this technology integration unit is for students to be able to use sensory details in original narrative writing with 90% accuracy, as evidenced by visual enhancements using digital storytelling elements. The outcome is for students to move toward proficiency of standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACT.W.5.3.D "Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely" (CCSS, 2015).
As the technology specialist, thw weekly meetings with the students for implementation are in 45-minute blocks. I have partnered with the ELA teacher for creation of the narrative writing piece; however, I am only with the students during the technology integration portion of the assignment. For that reason, my data collection is limited to what is evidenced during the weekly technology sessions. During these sessions, students are actively working on their digital storyboards using the Storyjumper software and I am circling the classroom to assist students with technical questions and reinforce objectives. For data collection, I have chosen to keep records in the form of anecdotal notes and observations (on a cruising clipboard) as I am actively working with students in the technology lab to make sure they are on-task and are working toward the specific goals of the assignment. After the students leave, I will enter the Storyjumper class platform to monitor student work completion, keeping additional records of progress and adherence to the objectives.
