Phase Two
Objectives
Phase Two of the capstone project details the specific learning objectives of the technology-based lessons that will be implemented. Each of the lessons are aligned to the learning objectives with the intention of meeting specific learning outcomes as determined by the need analysis. Assessments are created to measure the specific outcomes.
In this capstone project, the specific learning need that will be addressed is the mastery of the fifth grade Common Core State Standard for writing, W.5.3.D (Common Core State Standards, 2015):
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.5.3.D
Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely.
Measurement Method
The technology-based assessment will consist of students producing an original narrative piece in the format of a digital storyboard. As part of a literature unit on the tall tales genre, students will compose an original narrative piece in the form of a tall tale. In the classroom, students will complete the written portion of the composition to include storyboards and drawings. Using digital software in the computer lab, students will create a digital version of the narrative. Group collaboration will be used during the revision and peer editing portions of the assignment, however the assessment (the completed digital story) is independent. The rubric below will be used for the evaluation of the final product.

Outcome
Students will be able to use sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely.
Objectives
After using digital storytelling, students will be able to use sensory details in original narrative writing with 90% accuracy.
Assessment
Students will complete an original narrative writing piece using digital storyboarding. Teacher will record the use of details to convey story events and experiences with clarity. This post-assessment will be scored using a rubric to assess the same standards assessed in the initial narrative writing sample.
